Tammy attended North Central University in MN, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, with an emphasis in Communication Arts & Literature, as well as a minor in Biblical Studies. She was previously a licensed K-8 teacher in the state of MN, as well as a licensed substitute teacher and special needs paraprofessional in WI. Tammy taught 4th grade on the island of Saipan, and 4K in Spooner, WI. She enjoys being able to utilize her experience in the education field in her role at RTS to assist clients of all ages. Tammy grew up in Rice Lake and is proud to be back serving the community that helped raise her.
Throughout her previous careers as a nanny, daycare teacher, elementary school teacher, and special needs para she took many Professional Development trainings on various topics such as Supporting Students with Behavioral Needs, Supporting Struggling/Disengaged Learners, Supporting Math and Literacy Instruction, Peaceful Warrior Safety Training, A.C.E.S. (adverse childhood experiences), trauma and its effects on children, and mental health and wellness. Her experience in the education field also equips her with a knowledge in Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s) and differentiating curriculum and activities for students with diverse educational and behavioral needs, as well as knowledge around state testing and assessments (administered the P.A.L.S. assessments to her 4k students). Working with kids has always been a passion of Tammy’s and is something that she feels she was put in this world to do. However, through her role at RTS she has learned that she does also enjoy working with all demographics, from children to adults.
Additionally, with her background in faith-based studies, Tammy would love to help people with shared experiences and those who have an interest in a faith-based centered treatment approach. She would love to meet with you to discuss how faith can play a role in your treatment process. Tammy uses a wide variety of approaches to treatment which can include the faith- based approach as well as using different curriculums for different demographics. For children she enjoys the “Little Spot of Feelings” curriculum as well as the,” Invisible String Book and Workbook.” This is a great resource to come alongside children who have had loss in their life in the form of death, neglect, or removal from their parents’ care. It talks about always being connected with loved ones by an invisible string of love. The “Social/Emotional workbook,” and “Self-Esteem and Hopeful Minds” curriculums are favorites of Tammy’s to use with teens to help them find value and worth in their whole selves, including their mind, body, and emotions. For adults she loves to explore the curriculum, “Boundaries.” It is a favorite curriculum of Tammy’s to use with Parent Aide or ISDE clients. There are so many kinds of boundaries in one’s life, and this curriculum helps clients not only identify and understand them, but also helps them create and maintain healthy boundaries with their children, spouses, friends, coworkers, social media, and themselves. She also really enjoys teaching from the “Love and Logic” and “1-2-3 Magic” curriculums to help struggling parents to foster positive a loving parent/child relationship while also maintaining structure and enforcing positive discipline.
Tammy recently got married and is enjoying life as a newlywed. She and her husband hope to start a family of their own soon. She enjoys spending time with her large extended family including her young niece and nephews as well as going on bi-annual cousin trips. Tammy started learning Spanish in 2020 and is hoping to become fluent to be able to better serve Spanish speaking members of the community. Tammy also enjoys taking fun workout classes such as Zumba or Barre, (dancing makes working out so much easier!), relaxing with a good book and a giant cup of coffee and spending time outdoors. (When the WI weather is agreeable!)
